Maryland House to 'House of Cards': Leave State, Lose Assets

Threat of eminent domain.

With producers of "House of Cards" threatening to leave Maryland if the series doesn't get more tax credits, the state House of Delegates has sent its own message back: leave Maryland and lose your property.

Del. William Frick, a Montgomery County Democrat, proposed the provision, according to The Baltimore Sun. The budget language orders the state to use the right of eminent domain to buy or condemn the property of any company that has claimed $10 million or more credits against the state income tax.

Frick's amendment was accepted without debate. To take effect, the House language would need to be accepted in a conference with the Senate, which has already voted to increase the film tax credit, the Sun reported.
