I always adopt from shelters. My pets, both cats and dogs, have been exceptional companions andRead More always so glad that they got to come home with you. They are truly four-legged blessings!
Harriet Laurin July 22, 2014 at 10:12 am
Some folks seem to be bashing Ms. Willhide for having driven so far when other dogs were obviouslyRead More much closer. EVERY life saved is important, whether it's the one around the block, down the street, across the state, or, in this case, a few states away. I did a similar drive myself in Nov. 2012 from a Philadelphia PA suburb to Memphis TN and back again (round-trip, just over 2,000 miles) over a Thanksgiving holiday weekend to grab my deceased-mom's Rottie-Pit mix before another family member would have taken her to the Memphis animal shelter (a certain, and instant death sentence). I know just how difficult that length of a drive can be, as well as how emotions for a specific animal can kick in. Mom's "Dixie" would have had zero chance for adoption or life at the Memphis shelter, where there is always some controversy. I was able to foster Dixie until a spot opened up at a local Pennsylvania no-kill rescue, and they found the perfect home here for her.

What a sweet thing to do, and to Mimmie ...evidently hysteria is something that you are comfortableRead More with. You see red and immediately yell Fire! whether there is a flame or not - There is a wide gaping gulf between being beaten and being slapped at or even slapped IF his hand actually connected with her person. How would you feel if you were alone in front of screaming fans who all wanted nothing more than A PIECE OF YOU and you were within arms reach! They didn't want to hurt you, they wanted to love you to bits, just a pinch here and snatch a piece there and some hair, want an eyeball? there wouldn't be anything left but a greasy spot on the floor With love from Atlanta! Grow up Mimmie, people aren't going to let him get away with it? LOL! All he has to do is smile and say 'aw shucks' and people will melt and btw country fans don't mind smacking some girls around every now and then...there's a LOT of songs about that too!

Surviving 2 months implies the dog was fed and cared for for a period of that time. While notRead More necessarily kidnapped, he was evidently kept by someone who probably intended to keep him but, when they discovered the dog was micro chipped and therefore 'hot merchandise', released him to be refound.

We lost a Granddaughter last year after living only 10 days. She is an angle that continues to blessRead More our lives with her sweet spirit. When we knew she could not make it, we asked at the very end that all tubes and IV's be removed. We have dome beautiful pictures if her. So, happy that many responded to your plea.

What a heartwarming story about so many people coming through for another person, and in such aRead More wonderful and unique manner. That has made my day. I'd love to see the other photos, drawings and paintings. What a beautiful baby! I am so sorry for your terrible loss and hope these mementos continue to bring you some measure of comfort as the years go by.

We're NOT alone in the universe! We share this planet with millions of wonderful organisms - thoughRead More we're not very friendly to most of them. If any single, simple organism was found on another planet - at enormous expense! - we would treat that as truly fantastic; and yet we take our fellow Earthly organisms for granted. NASA's budget could save the whales (the largest animals that we know of in the history of the universe) and help protect rainforests and wetlands - the richest organic terrestrial areas in the universe (as far as we know!).
Marlon Brandy July 16, 2014 at 08:56 pm
Who cares? We have enough on our plate with the organisms already on earth. So we get somebody'sRead More radio signals that are two thousand years old. So what? How is that going to help us with the problems we have? NASA is really just a public test facility for the military anyway. Whatever they come up with is primarily for military applications.

For my money, the "Chicago style" hotdog is the benchmark which all other styles should beRead More compared to, and Stuggy's at Camden Yards does a pretty good job of executing the Chicago style recipe. That said, the standard hotdog at Oriole park is pretty good as well, and let's not forget Polock Johnny's. Add in the half-smoke, the Old Bay sausage, the Birdland dog, and several others and you can keep yourself in hotdog heaven for quite a few visits.

Growing up on a farm, we lived on the outskirts of town. For some reason people who didn't wantRead More their animals anymore would let them off on the side of the road. They would find their way to our farm for comfort and food. Once there they remained for the rest of their life. I couldn't understand why someone would want to get rid of their pet. Rescue an animal and you will have a very appreciative pet by your side.

A couple of years ago I adopted a 14 yr old toy poodle from animal control. She was blind, hard ofRead More hearing, almost toothless and so arthritic that our vet tech said she was crunchy. We only had 15 months with her, but she was our princess and we gave her a lifetime worth of love. I've never regretted the decision, I just wish we'd had longer.

I was adopted by a two-year old rescue dog last fall. He is a blessing. He came from a high killRead More shelter in South Carolina. I have no idea how he ended up there he's sweet, trained, house broken and love people. I encourage everyone to visit your local shelters / rescue organizations and give one of these precious creature a home.

There are designated bike lanes that the riders can use. The problem is the peopleRead More "still" texting while driving. Some of the worst drivers on the east coast. Those bike lane set off the road itself are the only safe places to ride. We all need to exercise more. Riding a bike is definitely a good way to lose weight.
Kolo Jezdec May 3, 2014 at 07:44 pm
I ride about 6000 miles a year, 99.9% of that on the roads. I agree that the scariest thing is theRead More high percentage of people texting or otherwise involved with their phones while operating a 1-2 ton machine capable of killing another human instantly.

Be careful who you ride with and where they ride. Madison Hartung was profoundly traumatized whenRead More the young teen she was riding with followed her across a busy highway. Madison initiated the crossing against the light and made it safely across before checking on her follower. The following teen was severely injured and disabled. Madison was pestered by the family of the teen to contact the injured girl. Madison was terribly frightened and never contacted the injured girl. Be careful when riding with someone as they may follow you into danger.
